High Five, Friend! Volunteer and Join the Party

A Virtual Giving Tuesday Card Party – December 2 at 11:00 AM CST

This Giving Tuesday, we’re spreading kindness one High Five at a time! Join the Forgotten Wishes Foundation for an hour of simple, meaningful volunteer activity that brings smiles and belonging to friends with disabilities across the country Live on Facebook @ForgottenWishesOrg

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that takes place each year after Thanksgiving. Basically, it’s a time when people and organizations around the world come together to give back — with time, kindness, and community. This year, we’re celebrating by hosting a virtual Happy Mail Card Party you can join from anywhere — no registration, no special supplies required. Scroll to the bottom to see a few samples of our High Five Template!

Our Theme: High Five, Friend!

We’re inviting you — and your workplace, friends, or family — to make a handmade “High Five” card that reminds a member of our Forget-Me-Not Friends Club that they’re valued, seen, and not alone.

Here’s the poem that inspired this year’s theme, High Five Friend, written by Lisa Dempsey:

This is my hand reaching out to say,
I’m thinking of a friend today.
Across the street or traveling many miles,
It stretches out to bring you smiles.
It’s a ‘High Five’ to you, a cheer, a shout,
A message to say kindness and friendship are what it’s all about.
We are stronger together when we lift each other up,
So pass along a ‘High Five,’ friend —
Let’s spark belonging and joy again and again.

How to Participate

You can join from your office, home, or anywhere with a bit of creativity and a big heart.

  1. First, download the High Five template. Print out as many copies as you’d like to make or share.
  2. Next, gather a few supplies. Markers, colored pencils, stickers, or washi tape are great — but if you just have a few markers and a pen, that works perfectly.
  3. Tune in to our livestream. Join us on Facebook Live @ForgottenWishesOrg on December 2 at 11:00 AM CST to create together and learn more about how these cards spread joy.
  4. Create your card or letter. Using the template, fill in the Card Maker questions on the front of the form. Then, add your handprint and decorate the back by coloring in your hand, adding stickers, designs, or other fun graphics.  If you are using blank 5.7 cards, print the poem on the front of the card.  Inside the card, trace your hand and decorate the handprint.  Be sure to sign your first name and include where you are from if you don’t have one of the Card Maker forms.
  5. Finally, send your finished cards to us. We would love to receive your originals by mail, but if that’s not possible, you can scan or photograph them and email them instead.

Why It Matters

Each High Five card will be sent to members of our Forget-Me-Not Friends Club. This community of friends with disabilities thrives on the connection these cards bring. We need over 1,000 High Fives to reach every member — and we can do it together!

The Start of “Joyful Tidings”

What’s more, this event also marks the beginning of our Joyful Tidings end-of-year giving campaign — a season of spreading joy, belonging, and friendship through small acts that mean a lot. Whether you join our livestream, host your own mini card-making moment, or donate to help mail the cards, your kindness is what keeps joy moving forward.

It costs about $2.00 to send each letter and $3.00 for birthday cards and greeting cards. Even a small donation helps make a significant impact. A $5 gift helps us send a High Five letter and a birthday card filled with connection and a sense of belonging. A monthly donation of $5 covers the cost for one club member for an entire year!   Click here to donate!

Can’t Join Us Live?

No problem! Afterwards, you can still participate at any time this season. Download our free How to Host a Card Party Guide from our website. Plan your own gathering with friends, coworkers, or family. This activity can be done during a short break at work or a cozy evening at home. It won’t take long — but it will mean a lot to someone who needs a reminder that they’re not forgotten.
